Renewal Information

Veterinarian Renewal Requirements

Annual renewal of your license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of North Dakota is due each year on June 30. The fee is $60.00. Renewals not received in the NDBVME office by June 30 will be assessed a late fee of 50% of the license fee. If you do not renew your license and continue to practice, you are in violation of North Dakota Century Code chapter 43-29. If your license lapses for 2 years, it may not be renewed but you may make application for a new license.

Each license holder, except as otherwise provided, shall be required to receive 24 hours of veterinary continuing education, approved by the Board, in the 24 months preceding each even year renewal date. Veterinary continuing education is defined as an educational program which will enhance the license holder’s professional ability to serve the public and which has prior approval of the Board.

Licensees will have to certify receiving 24 hours of CE in the two years preceeding each even year renewal date. Refer to the Board Rules for additional information.

Renewals are sent out by the Board the end of May. It is the licensee's responsibility to provide current address information to the Board.

Veterinary Technician Renewal Requirements

Your veterinary technician license expires each year on December 31. The renewal fee for a one year period is $15.00. Renewals not received in the NDBVME office by December 31 will be assessed a late fee of 50% of the license fee. Failure to submit the appropriate license renewal fee every year results in forfeiture of all rights and privileges under North Dakota Century Code chapter 43-29 and the veterinary technician may not perform veterinary technician services in the state of North Dakota. A certificate may be renewed for two years after it expires by paying the appropriate fees. After two years, a new application may be made.

The continuing education (CE) requirement is eight (8) hours every two years preceding each even year renewal date. Refer to the Board Rules for additional information.

Renewals are sent out by the Board the end of November. It is the licensee's responsibility to provide current address information to the Board.
